Experience

Susan Headley is a former writer for The Spruce who specialized in coin collecting, publishing dozens of articles on the subject over the course of more than 12 years. Throughout her career, Headley has been involved in the coin business from both sides of the dealer's table.

Although she's been collecting coins since she was a child in the 1960s and she completed her first Lincoln Cent folder at the age of 17, it wasn't until she got her first job sorting and grading wheat pennies for a mail-order dealer in her later teens that she truly began to understand the field. Headley has never been a full-time coin dealer herself, but she has worked for about a dozen different dealers in various capacities and knows the ins and outs of the business. She has become an ardent consumer advocate for collectors as the numismatic marketplace moves to online venues.

Susan is a member of the American Numismatic Association (ANA), through which she holds several certifications. She also belongs to the American Numismatic Society (ANS), CONECA (error and variety coins club), and several regional and local coin clubs.
