A mess of stored fabric

Creating a sewing room to meet all of my needs is a challenge to say the least!

Starting with a blank slate our first step was to build the desks I would need. My sewing room needs a computer desk and sewing desk. I will have a 6 foot desk with drawers for under $100 and 14 feet of sewing table with drawers for just under $200. Before I started moving the abundance of fabric into the room I did take some sewing time to create the Tote Bag with Recessed Zipped Top and have to say I LOVED working on my new sewing surface. Now the fabric is finding it's way into the room. I really must learn to control my urge to buy fabric. I won't venture to guess how many yards of fabric I have but I know when I see a bargain I bring it home. Since it cost me 200 miles last week just to buy the purse zippers I wanted I justify my fabric addition with the miles I will save by having the fabric on hand. Many people will not understand how it could take so many miles to buy a zipper, but upstate New York is horrendous for finding sewing supplies.

Planning ahead to order online supplies, doesn't usually fit the idea I want to create when the urge strikes so my obsession continues.

I know exactly where I want the closet in the new room. Exactly what size I want the closet is yet to be decided so that I can maximized the storage space.

After experimenting with 90 and 58 quart plastic tub storage. I decided that 58 quart tubs work best to meet my space needs and hold an amount of fabric that is movable. The 90 quart tubs ended up very heavy and un-manageable to find the fabric I wanted to find.

I'm actually organizing the fabric as I fold and pack it for storage. I'm determined that I will be able to find the fabric when I want it, so each tub is also being labeled.

Here's a list of the labels I'm using to give you an idea of what might work for your storage needs.
