    Materials and Cutting Directions

    Padded Pan Handle Pot Holder

    The following directions are for a pan handle that is 6 by 1-inch wide. If your pan handle is different, adjust the measurements to suit your needs.

    Materials

    • Fabric (preferably cotton—not a synthetic fiber that will melt easily from heat—2 pieces cut to 6 by 4 1/2 inches)
    • One low loft batting such as warm and natural—cut 6 by 4 1/2 inches
    • One Insul-Bright (or a second layer of low-loft batting)—cut 6 by 4 1/2 inches
    • Sewing machine
    • Hand sewing needle and thread
    • Rotary cutting tools (optional, but recommended)

    • Layer all of the pieces in the following order:
      • Low loft batting
      • Fabric (right side up)
      • Fabric (right side down)
      • Insul-Bright
    • Align all of the edges, and pin the layers together.
    • Leaving a 2–3-inch opening on one 6-inch side, sew around the edges using a 1/4-inch seam allowance.
    • Trim away the corners to remove the bulk.
    • Trim away batting seam allowances if possible to remove the bulk.

    Hand Sewing

    • Turn right sides out and press well.
    • Slip stitch the opening closed.
    • Gently fold the tube in half to butt the 6-inch edges.
    • Slip stitch the edges together to form a tube.
    • Place the slip stitched seam as shown in the photo, and slip stitch the end closed.
    • Place on the pan handle when you need it, but never leave it on the pan and unattended while you are cooking.
