Origami Easter baskets make a cute way to present holiday treats. Write names on the baskets to use them as place cards for a holiday meal or have your child pass them out to friends at school.
This project uses a single square sheet of paper. The larger the paper, the more useful the origami basket will be. The basket in this tutorial was made with 8 1/4 inch x 8 1/4 inch origami paper. Patterned 12-inch x 12-inch scrapbook paper or squares cut from pretty wrapping paper would also work well for this project.

Create a Square Base
The first step for making an origami paper basket is to make a square base. A square base is a common origami form used in many different types of models, including the easy origami flower.
To make a square base, place your paper on the table with the colored or patterned side face down. Fold it in half diagonally and open. Then, fold the paper in half along the diagonal the other way. Turn the paper over to the opposite side. Fold the paper in half horizontally, crease well, and open. Then, fold again in the other direction.
Open the paper once more. Using the creases that you have made, bring the top three corners down towards the bottom of the paper. Flatten the paper to complete your square base.

Fold the Layers
Fold the layer of paper on the left side over to touch the right side. Flip the model over and fold the right layer over to touch the left side. When you are finished, your origami paper basket should look like the photo to the left.Continue to 5 of 8 below.

Fold the Base of the Basket
Fold the wide end down to make a triangle shape that rests between the two flaps. Go over this crease with your fingernail or a metal ruler to make sure it is nice and sharp. The purpose of this fold is to make a base for your origami basket, so a neat fold is essential for creating a basket that opens properly.
