Americana themed crochet patterns are a great choice for celebrating Fourth of July, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. They also make great gifts for members of the military and charities for veterans. These free patterns, primarily but not only blanket patterns, all have an Americana theme. Some resemble American flags; some feature a stars and stripes theme; some are simply red, white, and blue. Bookmark these for any occasion when you want to crochet something patriotic.

Tracy Johnson has recreated the American flag in crochet sized as a blanket. The stripes are wavy ripples, offering an undulating design. She offers this pattern as a free download on Ravelry where she shares,
"I made this as a tribute for my Dad--a WWII Coast Guard Veteran still kicking at 93! I hope others will make this flag for the special veteran in their life or for veterans that have no one to make one for them!"
Tracy also offers a free crochet pattern for the 13-star colonial flag ...as a blanket.

This is a classic chevron crochet blanket pattern worked in red, white and blue stripes that remind us of the flag. The chevron is a crochet pattern associated with many different decades, so it's a perfect choice for this American blanket. This pattern is a free download from Celeste Dunn on Ravelry.

This free crochet pattern by Donna's Crochet Designs is inspired by the American Flag but takes liberties with the original design. It doesn't look like a flag but you can easily tell that it represents the flag. This is a fun choice for a free crochet blanket pattern that represents the stars and stripes.

Villager over on the Crochetville forums posted this free crochet pattern for an American-flag inspired crochet square. This square, which measures 10" when worked as described, can be adapted into a blanket either by enlarging the original square or by making multiple squares and stitching them together to create a big blanket.
Also on Crochetville you'll find that another designer offers a free crochet pattern for an American flag potholder.

This free crochet pattern from Being Spiffy is designed as a dishcloth and certainly works well as that. However, it could also be used as the basis for a blanket design. As with the squares above, you could either adapt the pattern to a larger size by changing to larger hook and yarn or you could make multiples of the dishcloth and stitch them into a large afghan.
Oombawka Design also offers a free red, white and blue crochet dishcloth pattern. And BellaCrochet offers a star-shaped Americana... crochet dishcloth pattern.
