Alistair Boddy-Evans is a former writer for ThoughtCo who contributed numerous articles on African history, culture, and politics for more than 17 years. Alistair is a historian, secondary-school teacher, and a post-graduate researcher with more than 25 years of experience. His scholarly work tackles such topics as the origins of apartheid in South Africa, the transatlantic slave trade, early European explorers of Africa, and the Soweto uprising. Alistair contributed to the grade 8 textbook, Verken Mens- En Sosiale Wetenskappe Onderwysersgids Gr 8 (Maskew Miller Longman, South Africa, 2000). Alistair Boddy-Evans earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the UCL Institute of Education in London. He also holds a Master of Science (MSc) degree and a Diploma of the Imperial College London (DIC) in Rock Mechanics. Alistair also has a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Civil Engineering with honors from Heriot-Watt University.
